Hiring a Contractor

How do I go about finding a good contractor!

Q: How do I know who to hire?

A: The right contractor will have the experience and excitement of the project that you do. A partner in the project so to speak. Able to see your vision and bring it to life!

Q: Where do I find a good contractor?

A: There are many reliable contractors. As with any business, Referrals are key! Make sure they have good references for their work. If you don't have anyone that can refer a good contractor make sure to talk to a few different ones and you will be able to do a comparison.

Q: What questions should I be asking?

A: Renovations can add up to be big sums of money so the more questions you ask the better it is for you!

How long have they been around?

Can they supply references?

Do you carry proper insurance?

What are you're after-job clean-up practices?

What is the contractor's work schedule? - Setting expectations is important.

What's the expected time frame?

Do you have a contract or quote for me to sign?

When do I pay?

What do you offer in terms of a warranty?

Do you have insurance?

Do you have a list of my responsibilities for this project?

Q: What is considered an Extra?

A: Simply put extras are things that were not laid out in the initial quote. For example. You decide that you wish to change something about the project after work has begun. This can lead to extra work or time required to finish the project in a new light. These costs would be added to the project.
